Most characters are dressed reasonably, and then in the recent E3 they show her and its like "Why can she dress like sensible person? The ninja lady makes more sense than you!" Japan can pull it off half the time with fanservice done right, but then you get characters like Ivy from Soul Caliber. And I mostly stick to communities to share experiences, and very rarely check out the rule 34 half of a random. But be careful to not use it as an echo chamber, or at least be conscious of it, and stay respectful to criticism (at least that's what I'm trying to do, not telling it's always easy or that I'm always successful, sadly) I do notice that in most Japanese things I watch/read/play. Can it be nice to be part of a community, have people to talk to and that share your interests? Sure. Yes, I think it turned some people off.but that's why you should always separate a product to its community. I'll could try and analyse why at length and probably sound pretentious while doing it, so I'll just say that my personal opinion is that they have a very strict society that leads to amazing innovations and creations, but this also builds pressure that inevitably leads to over-the-top innovations and creations. Having a somewhat tame product that leads to the creation of over-the-top merchandise is common in Japan.
